In the Editorial Design module, we were given the brief of designing a book (jacket, cover and inside 'illustrations') using text from either Undersea by Rachel Carson or A Way of Looking at Things by Peter Zumthor. I read both texts and analysed accordingly.
I had to focus on telling the story through typography— not just words, but how they’re laid out and experienced while challenging the usual idea of “reading” by playing with typographic hierarchy and visual storytelling.
The book had to fit within certain specifications and I enhanced my InDesign skills with weekly software sessions which taught the most efficient methos of book design and page setups. We practiced perfect bound and Japanese stab methods of binding . I could use up to 2 printed colours only. This process developed my skills of concept development, type experimentation, planning, print production, materials, and binding.

The final outputs included a professionally bound book, a PDF showing your research and design process, and a short video showing the finished book - front cover, inside spreads, and back cover.
